Fertility

This embroidery is taken from the sleeve of a woman's Ikhtiman shirt. The general composition is Elbetica , with the eight main directions of the world and the heavenly swastikas in the center clearly expressed. The embroidery represents the spiral of life, expressed through the roots of the floral elements - tulip. The root is always twisted like a spiral, symbolizing development of new life and fertility. From the roots, in the four main directions are the blooming tulips - one of the predecessors of spring. The process of growth is always associated with blooming, which symbolizes fertility.

In the center of the embroidery is the symbol of the mother goddess from whom life originates. The tulip flowers are represented by two parts, the inner one expressing the feminine and the outer, shaped like wings, the protective masculine. Around them are embroidered the images of the sun, giving life according to beliefs.

The small petals surrounding the heavy colors of the floral elements are typical features of the Ikhtiman embroidery, always shaping the embroidery in a geometric shape - circle, square or rectangle.
Since ancient times, people have believed in the sacred power of plants. That is why there are many myths and legends about flowers. Some of them are adopted as symbols, talismans or amulets. The tender TULIP also has an interesting history. The Latin name of the flower comes from Persia, where it is called lala (translated into Bulgarian - tulip). And the first information about the tulip is related to Persia, where it inspired poets with its perfect shape and delicate buds. A Persian legend tells of a man who was madly in love and committed suicide because he was separated from the woman who captured his heart. From the drops of blood sprouted marvelously beautiful scarlet tulips. Because of this, to this day, some consider the tulip a symbol of shared love.

Tulips of different colors are believed to carry their own meaning:

Red tulips are most strongly associated with true love.

Purple tulips symbolize royalty and honor.

Yellow tulips represent hopeless love for the moment with a general expression of cheerful thoughts and sunshine.

White tulips are used as a sign of dignity and to ask for forgiveness.

Variegated tulips are among the most popular varieties and express adoration for beautiful eyes.

The "Fertility" embroidery has preserved the mythical variety of the tulip composition and tells about the harmony of the Bulgarian seasons in color - the yellow leaves around the upper tulip represent the idea of the harvest season, the red leaves - the idea of the autumn season, and the blue ones below, for the winter.
