Family

The composition named by us "Rod" is a collection of three elements "Kanatitsa" connected to each other. We can conditionally assume that these are related genera. At the base of each of the figures, we find the two triangles (scissors), which symbolize the masculine and the feminine. Connected at the tops, they symbolize a wedding, or betrothal of the two people from whom the offspring originates. The next makazis are "children" or in other words - the generation that turns it into a family. This determines the name of the embroidery.

In Bulgarian folklore, the figure is also known as the Big Rope and is one of the symbols of fertility. It protects its wearer from evil forces and is depicted only on objects that a person can always carry with him.

The "Kanatitsa" figure has been found in many places, and in addition to the Balkans, it can also be seen in the Middle East and the Caucasus. She is often depicted around the composition known as the "Tree of Life". This speaks of the main place that the family occupies in the worldview of our ancestors and its main role in the endless cycle of life.

A zigzag stitched edging is placed around the elements for protection.
