Today, the city of Troyan celebrates its holiday. Today marks the 150th anniversary of its declaration as a city. It is no coincidence that this falls on Petkovden - St. Petka is the patroness of the city. Troyan is a city that continues to breathe, live and develop without forgetting its roots, on which it firmly stood.
The settlement was founded during the time of the Roman Empire and was named after Emperor Trajan. The area was also inhabited by Thracians, Slavs and proto-Bulgarians. This corner of the Balkans has retained its status as a center of traditional craftsmanship and to this day keeps Bulgarian customs and traditions alive.
During the Renaissance, Troyan was one of the most active cities and jealously guarded the spark of Bulgarianness. Although not among the largest cities in terms of population in Bulgaria, Troyan has always been among the most progressive places in the country. It is no coincidence that Troyan is only the third city, after Sofia and Plovdiv, where electricity has been installed.
For Vezba Troyan is even more special because our designer Tsvetomir Petkov was born and raised there. It was there that his love for weaving was nurtured.
A lot can be written and said about the history and sights of Troyan, but the most valuable wealth of the city is precisely the people. Therefore, today we can tell them one thing: 150 years of the City of Troyan, celebrate, Trojans!
